For 20 years, Brandt served with the Chandler Fire Department, responding to emergencies while developing extensive experience in leadership, education, training, and mentorship.
As a Fire Captain, Brandt supervised personnel and emergency operations while also helping train the next generation of public-safety professionals. His experience includes serving as a paramedic instructor, ACLS instructor, recruit training officer, and tactical paramedic.
Brandt also spent more than 17 years volunteering with the Chandler Fire Cadet program and served on the department's Member Services Peer Support Team. As a member of Chandler Pipes and Drums, he found another way to serve and honor members of the public-safety community.
As a Registered Nurse, he has worked in demanding clinical environments including cardiovascular intensive care, medical intensive care, post-anesthesia care, and hospice.
His nursing experience has required him to assess rapidly changing patient conditions, administer critical medications, monitor complex clinical needs, coordinate with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and communicate difficult information to patients and families with clarity and compassion.
Brandt believes education should do more than check a box.
People learn when they're interested. They remember when they're engaged. And they're more likely to apply information when they understand how it connects to situations they actually encounter.
That's why NAB training may include scenarios, storytelling, demonstrations, humor, candid conversations, audience interaction, and occasionally some carefully deployed shock and awe.
That experience informs NAB's commitment to culturally responsive education, including work with Tribal and Native communities.
